The next part in the Murderbot series.
Murderbot
is living at Preservation Station, which is a very peaceful and quiet colony. His
job is guarding his employer, which is an easy job – mostly standing in a corner
where he can watch his entertainment shows in peace. But someone was found dead at
the station. Murder is very rare, and local peacekeepers are not really ready to handle it. Murderbot, on the other hand, has a lot of experience with dead people, and he hasn’t even killed most of them. So, he is drafted to investigate
the murder even if he (nor the security of the station) is very keen on that. And he can’t even get unlimited access to all databases and data feeds on the station, as there are some stupid concerns – it might harm the privacy of the inhabitants or something.
Well, there are still enough places that can be accessed with only slight hacking. And soon
Murderbot learns the reasons for the murder and eventually the culprit.
Another
nice installment in the series. Perhaps not the best one, but good, with a wry, amused/irritated narrative voice - who barely has time to watch his soaps during
this story; everything unfolded pretty fast. I listened to the Finnish translation. There was
one very stupid error. “Data dump” really doesn’t translate as “data trashcan”.
