Myth Conceptions (Myth Adventures #2) by Robert Lynn Asprin

The adventures of magician apprentice Skeeve and his magician (who has lost his powers) friend, a demon named Aahz from the dimension of Perv (yes, Aahz is a pervert) continue. The friends are relaxing at the inn, which came to be in their possession at the end of the last book, when they hear that a nearby kingdom is hiring a court magician. As government jobs are easy and well paid, they decide to get that job. There seems to be some heavy competition for that tenure, but thanks to his shrewdness, Skeeve manages to get the job. It turns out that there was a good reason why the kingdom was seeking a magician: there is a huge invading force closing in, so huge that the country’s military wouldn’t have any chance with it so a magical solution is imperative. As Skeeve is just an apprentice and Perv doesn’t have any power, that is a slightly tall order. But fast talking and clever scheming might work…

A fun book that is based on clever wordplay and surprising and funny plot twists (I wonder how Aahz, the pervert, knows so many of our idioms which always go over every other character's head). A fun little book, looking forward to the next part.
